SERVPRO: What I learned when Researching the SERVPRO Franchise Opportunity

If you are looking for information about SERVPRO, look no further. If you are thinking of becoming franchise owner, let me encourage you to read further to make an informed decision before getting started.

Before proceeding, I want to disclose that I am NOT a franchise owner, nor am I writing for a competing company. My goal is to give you factual details about the company, the services, franchise costs, and franchise requirements.

At the end of this SERVPRO Franchise review, I will also share a marketing strategy that will set you far ahead of the majority of entrepreneurs.

My name is Beth Amonett. I am an entrepreneur with a few businesses under my belt, and I come from a heritage of “being your own boss” which I have followed my entire life. I still do. If you like this post, please +1 or share it!

SERVPRO: The Company

SERVPRO Industries, Inc., a privately owned corporation, began operating in 1967 as a painting business based in Sacramento, California founded by Ted and Doris Isaacson. The couple had a background in cleaning and restoration, and in 1969, the Isaacson’s turned the company into a franchisor of cleanup and restoration professionals. The company incorporated in 1977. In 1988 in a strategic move, the company relocated its headquarters to Gallatin, Tennessee to be within 600 miles of 50% of the United States population. At the time, they had expanded nationwide to 647 franchises.

Today, there are over 1,500 franchises in the U. S., including one in Canada. Still located in Gallatin, Tennessee, the headquarters has expanded to a state-of-the-art facility and continues to grow at a steady rate as one of the top franchises in the U.S.

SERVPRO: The Franchise Services and Costs

SERVPRO services are: insurance/disaster restoration due to water, fire, or other disasters for commercial and residential customers. They also offer
services for mold remediation, carpet and upholstery cleaning, air duct and HVAC cleaning, and other related services.

SERVPRO franchise costs will be approximately $135,000 – $180,000, which includes a franchise fee of $42,000. There is a royalty fee of 3 – 10 percent with a renewable 5 year franchise requirement. Some corporate financing is available providing certain criteria are met.

Franchisees must have a net worth of $100,000 with $60,000 liquid cash-on- hand. The number of employees per franchise is on average 5 – 10 persons. All franchise owners must be franchise owner/operators. Statistically 40 percent of all franchisees own more than one franchise.

Training is extensive. They developed the National Training Center in 1992 to teach restoration and mitigation skills to Franchise Owners and insurance industry employees. A franchise is required to be certified in crew training, fire restoration, water restoration, carpet and upholstery cleaning.

In addition, franchisees must attend an on site two-week training course at the corporations training facility; it is also a valuable course for franchise employees. In addition, there is a one week required training at the franchise location. The franchise can be operated from home.

SERVPRO is an approved The Clean Trust Training School. Continuing education, credit and non-credit, is available for franchisees, employees, insurance agents, adjusters, realtors, etc. These programs are designed to improve knowledge of emergency mitigation.

SERVPRO: The Right Fit for You?

Without doubt, the SERVPRO franchise opportunity is a solid, recession proof, fantastic company with a long history of sustained growth. The corporation has built the brand, system, and support which allow each franchisee to work at optimal levels to ensure the greatest possible chance of success.

However, at the end of the day your success is not guaranteed. My research shows that the most profitable SERVPRO franchises are those who have a location-based brand and presence both offline and online. This requires a knowledge of branding and a high level marketing.

Food for thought for anyone thinking of a start-up venture is consideration of a virtual business. The concept of Attraction Marketing puts you in front of the masses that are already looking for what you do. We use a marketing system that includes training, websites, email auto responders, order processing (cash register), and online branding.

This is not limited to, but can include, a network marketing company. However, even if the thought of doing business online appeals to you, and network marketing doesn’t, keep affiliate marketing in mind. Virtually every product you buy or shop for online is someone’s affiliate product. And they became an affiliate for free.
